Newcastle is at the
heart of a region full of historical and natural interest. You can visit
Hadrian's wall, a World Heritage site that survives from the ancient
world or Durham Cathedral, built by the Normans, Alnwick Castle the
ancestral home of the Duke of Northumberland with magnificent new
gardens on the grand scale, or many other places that record the
region's story . By contrast, Newcastle itself is modern and lively,
with bars and clubs full of party people that make its
nightlife rate in the world's top 10. It is quite an eye-opener to
walk the Quayside amidst the bridges old and new. For a
quieter side of life you can head out through unspoilt, rural
Northumberland towards Kielder Water, Europe's largest man-made
lake. We have quiet forests, wild hillsides and
un-crowded beaches. See the links page for more
information.
